While the products we inject like Botox and Juvederm are temporary and will wear off over a period of time, there are some who may choose to have their fillers removed through dissolving prior to their natural resolution. This is a rare need, but it’s a quick and simple process when it does come up.
At the offices of Steven Jepson MD, we do everything in our power to avoid any need for dermal filler removal. We work closely with you to help you obtain results you feel confident and comfortable with, no matter what your treatment needs whether it be our Botox services or dermal fillers. Let’s look at how we help remove dermal fillers, but also spend a few moments on the process and why it’s uncommon in general.
Eliminating Need for Filler Removal
Unfortunately, the primary underlying cause for those who do choose to have dermal fillers removed is poor treatment quality, something Dr. Jepson strives very hard to avoid in the first place. Sadly, though, there are a number of Botox and dermal filler practitioners out there who do not have the experience and expertise Dr. Jepson does, and it’s possible in these cases for the injection to be applied incorrectly.
When you come to a qualified, professional med spa, however, you can significantly decrease this risk. We’ll discuss your goals and the approach we’ll take to achieve them, explaining every detail of the treatment you’ll receive before getting started. Our long track record of great results speaks for itself here.
Removal Causes and Process
One of the reasons that might precipitate a need for dermal filler removal include:
Overfilling – creates a pillow-like, unnatural look on the skin
Lumpiness – generally around the injection site
Volume imbalance – leads to asymmetry and undesirable appearance
Reaction – a very rare situation where some people have a minor allergic reaction to a filler that leads to inflammation
In these rare cases, we can dissolve the filler as needed by injecting hyaluronidase into the filler, a natural enzyme that breaks down the hyaluronic acid. This removal product will work within a day or two.
Removal is Uncommon
As we’ve noted, this sort of removal is highly uncommon. This is not only because of the quality of our treatments but also because of the temporary lifespan of fillers – they naturally dissolve themselves over a period of months. Even patients who are trying a filler for the first time will realize that if they don’t love the way it turns out, they can just wait a short period of time and avoid the removal process altogether.
