How You Can Benefit From Photofacial Treatment

Whether it’s laser treatments, Botox, Fillers, or CoolSculpting, medical spas like ours at Genesis Lifestyle Medical are best known for helping you look better without undergoing “the knife”

One of our most popular laser treatments is the Photofacial. Photofacials are perfect for people looking for help with redness or other facial issues, and at a very affordable cost. Let’s look at how the treatment works, and why it might be beneficial to you.

How It Works

Photofacial uses intense pulses of light, which are reflected onto the skin in the area of specific redness or skin damage.  The intense light damages abnormal pigment and abnormal blood vessels, while preserving your normal tissues.  Your immune system then helps “clean up” the damage, reducing the appearance of the abnormal  brown and red sun damage over the weeks that follow.  There’s is no significant downtime after treatment.  Your skin may be mildly red for several hours afterwards and your brown spot may be darker for a few days, but most people do not take time off work for this procedure.

Sun Damage and Spotting

Photofacial treatments can be especially beneficial for people with sun damage. The treatments will be spaced out over a period of weeks to help slowly reduce and eliminate  redness or freckling. Some people also deal with hyperpigmentation, and photofacials may be beneficial here also, depending on the cause of your hyperpigmentation

Collagen Production

Another benefit of any facial laser treatment is the stimulation of new collagen production. Collagen is among the chemicals that helps keep skin smooth and avoid wrinkles naturally, and adding more of it to the skin through these treatments helps keep the skin smoother and healthier over time.

Not For All Skin Types

Photofacials may not be the best option for you if you have a darker skin type though.  We are very careful to match the appropriate laser treatment to your skin color and your aging concerns.  We always recommend coming in for a free consultation before scheduling your laser appointment so that we can make sure you are getting the right treatment
