Collagen in Food: Garlic, Eggs and Veggies

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basics on the role of collagen in youthful skin, plus some of the top foods that contain collagen. Garlic is one of the single foods most beneficial for overall skin health. It has numerous different anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties, including lipoic acid, taurine and sulfur, among other compounds. It’s known to assist with the rebuilding of collagen fibers that have been damaged recently, plus to protect against skin degradation.

Another major benefit of garlic: How easy it is to add to food. A clove of garlic can be tossed into a huge variety of different dishes or meals, whether as a primary ingredient or a topper.


Cabbage is valuable to skin health as well, in large part because it produces a ton of vitamin content – vitamins A, B, C and E are all produced in high quantities by cabbage, as are phytonutrients like lutenin, which fight free radical damage. A huge variety of red vegetables, for instance, have high quantities of lycopene, which boosts collagen while protecting the skin – so eat plenty of beets, peppers and tomatoes. In addition, orange vegetables like sweet potatoes or carrots have incredible amounts of vitamin A, which helps out with cell repair, skin renewal and the restoration of collagen.
