Defining Medical Spas and Services

defining medical spas services

At the offices of Dr. Steven Jepson MD, we’re proud to serve as Utah’s top medical spa, with a variety of fantastic services for our clients ranging from Botox to Kybella and many in between. We offer aesthetic and non-surgical procedures, with a top-of-the-line facility that will keep you both comfortable and safe throughout.

What exactly is a med spa? How does it compare to a traditional day spa you might attend to get your nails done, for instance? Let’s look at some of the key elements that make a medical spa what it is, plus some areas that they’re actually not meant for.

Combined Services

Medical spas have become wildly popular over the last several years, both among men and women alike. Also called med spas or medi-spas, businesses like ours look to combine the comfort and relaxation of a day spa with expertise and advanced clinical procedures that would not be possible in a traditional spa setting.

The staff at your day spa are likely great at what they do, but they don’t go through anywhere near the same kind of professional training that Genesis Lifestyle Medical and other medical spa doctors do. While not every procedure we do will necessarily be done by a doctor, they will supervise all elements of your stay. At the same time, though, we don’t want you to feel like you’re in a cramped doctor’s office every time you come in – that’s why we model our spa areas after traditional formats, allowing you to experience our variety of services in peace and relaxation.

The kind of treatments offered at different medical spas varies somewhat between spas, but there are generally a few broad themes or areas targeted:

  • Skin care
  • Wrinkle reduction
  • Acne improvement
  • Laser Tattoo removal

These services are performed in a variety of possible formats. Botox, for instance, is a common and well-known product that’s injected into the face to help relax muscles and make the face appear younger and fresher. There are also numerous laser treatments that are used for various cosmetic needs.

In addition, you’ll find some of the same services you would at a day spa – things like Facials, microdermabrasion, and waxing servies
