Examining Myths Surrounding Botox Treatments

At Genesis Lifestyle Medical, our most popular service is Botox injection therapy. Botox injections have been helping people eliminate lines and wrinkles for over 15 years, and we provide them in an affordable, low-risk medical spa setting.

Over the years, Botox treatments have developed a few stigmas. There are several myths floating around about these treatments, and several are blatantly false – and might keep unsuspecting folks from getting a treatment that could be very beneficial to them. Let’s crack down on a few common Botox myths.

Is it Safe?

Botox has been used medically for decades, and cosmetically since the early 2000s.  It has a proven track record for safety and is FDA-approved for wrinkle reduction.

But Botox is Only For…

A big mistake many people make is assuming Botox injections are only for certain groups – namely women.  Botox is perfectly acceptable for men, and in fact, more and more men are getting Botox every year.

This “only for” misconception comes into play with wrinkles, as well. While this is the primary purpose for Botox, it’s not the only one. Botox can also be used for things like TMJ symptoms in the jaw and migraine treatment.

Stopping Makes Wrinkles Worse

There’s a common myth that Botox will actually make previous wrinkles worse if you ever stop treatment, but this isn’t true. Stopping treatment will indeed cause the effects of Botox to wear off slowly over time, but things will only reach their original state here – they’ll never get worse.

Best Time is When Lines Appear

Many folks wait until they start seeing major lines and wrinkles before looking into Botox, and while there’s nothing wrong with this, it can be even more successful if you get there a bit earlier. Botox is more and more commonly used as a preventive treatment – with the right treatment, it can actually cause muscle movements to adjust in permanent ways that can make wrinkles and lines less likely in upcoming years.
